Kerala Opposition Leader Calls for Immediate Release of Poll Data
Concerns Raised Over Delay in Election Data Publication
The Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V D Satheesan, has expressed concerns regarding the delay in releasing official polling data following the elections held on April 9. In a letter addressed to the Election Commission of India on April 12, which he shared on social media, Satheesan highlighted that crucial electoral information is still unavailable three days post-voting.
In his correspondence, the senior leader from the Indian National Congress pointed out that the absence of detailed and authenticated figures, such as constituency-wise polling data, vote percentages, and postal ballot statistics, raises significant concerns about transparency in the electoral process. He stated, “I wish to draw your kind attention to the delay in publishing the official data related to the Kerala Assembly Elections held on 9th April 2026.”
Satheesan underscored the importance of timely disclosures, indicating that the swift release of this information is essential for maintaining public trust and enabling scrutiny of the electoral process. He urged the Election Commission to “take immediate steps to publish the complete election data without further delay,” emphasizing the necessity of verified information for voters, researchers, and political representatives alike.
Voter Participation and Election Conduct
The Kerala Assembly polls reported a voter turnout of 78.03%, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) stating that the election was carried out smoothly and was supported by extensive live webcasting of the proceedings. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar referred to the elections as a “historic testimony” to the democratic participation of the electorate.
In the aftermath of the elections, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala expressed optimism regarding a victory for the United Democratic Front. He conveyed his belief that the electorate is prepared for political change within the state, indicating confidence in the UDF’s performance during the elections.
