Election Officer Dies By Suicide Weeks Before Local Body Polls In Gujarat

An election officer has died by suicide in Gujarat’s Valsad district, just two weeks before the local body polls set to take place in the state. DC Brahmankachh, who served as the mamlatdar and an election officer in Umargaon, reportedly jumped in front of a train late last night.
The tragic incident occurred during a critical period of election preparations, where mamlatdars fulfill essential roles as returning officers tasked with overseeing the electoral process.
Response and Investigation
Local authorities were notified of the occurrence shortly after midnight, prompting a significant police presence to be dispatched to the scene. The railway police were responsible for securing the area and subsequently sent the deceased for post-mortem examination.
