Three Indian Nationals Injured in Fujairah Due to Iranian Strikes
Injuries Reported after Missile and Drone Attacks
Three Indian nationals sustained injuries following missile and drone strikes launched by Iran on the United Arab Emirates (UAE), resulting in a fire at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, according to official reports. The Indian government condemned the attacks, categorizing them as “unacceptable” and called for an immediate end to hostilities targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India stated, “The attack on Fujairah that resulted in injury to three Indian nationals is unacceptable. We call for immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians.” The strikes took place on Monday, and the Iranian government has been identified as responsible for the attacks.
Indian Embassy Reacts
The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi confirmed the injuries and is coordinating efforts with local authorities. They stated: “Three Indian nationals have been injured in today’s attacks in Fujairah. We are in touch with local authorities to ensure adequate medical care and welfare of the affected Indian nationals.” The embassy is actively working to provide assistance to those affected by the strikes.
The Embassy’s communications on social media emphasized their ongoing dialogue with local officials to guarantee that the injured receive proper medical attention.
Details of the Attack
The UAE’s Ministry of Defence reported that Iran had launched four cruise missiles during the assault. Three of these missiles were intercepted by air defence systems, while the fourth missile fell into the sea. Concurrently, a drone strike resulted in a fire at the oil facility located in Fujairah, which is significant as a hub for energy exports. Emergency response teams were deployed to manage the fire, and the injured individuals were taken to a hospital, where they are reported to have sustained moderate injuries.
Rising Tensions in the Region
This incident occurs after a temporary period of calm following a ceasefire announcement between the United States and Iran earlier this month. UAE authorities noted that the attack represents a reinvigoration of escalation in hostilities, prompting missile alerts to be issued in major cities, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Iranian media have reported that naval operations have intensified near the Strait of Hormuz, an area critical for global shipping and energy transport, including zones adjacent to UAE ports.
UAE’s Response to the Strikes
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the missile and drone strikes, asserting that the nation reserves the right to respond to such actions. Officials characterized the attack as a direct threat to national security and the safety of its infrastructure.
Fujairah holds strategic importance for the UAE, as it provides a route for exporting oil through the Gulf of Oman, thereby circumventing the potentially volatile Strait of Hormuz. The recent attacks have heightened concerns regarding the security of vital energy supply routes and the potential for further escalation in the region’s ongoing tensions.
