Lucknow: The electorate in Uttar Pradesh has increased by over 8.4 million, reaching a total of 133.9 million, following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The final voter list was published on Friday, revealing the significant growth in the voter base.
During a press conference held at the Lok Bhawan Media Centre, Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Electoral Officer, Navdeep Rinwa, outlined the details of the SIR exercise, which took place from October 27, 2025, to April 10, 2026. This comprehensive effort included all 75 districts, 403 assembly constituencies, and polling stations throughout the state.
Details of the Revision Process
According to Rinwa, the 166-day revision process involved the collaboration of 75 District Election Officers (DEOs), 403 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 12,758 Assistant EROs, 18,026 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and 1,77,516 BLO supervisors. Additionally, over half a million booth-level agents from recognized political parties, as well as millions of voters, contributed to the successful implementation of this initiative.
The role of print, electronic, and digital media was also highlighted as pivotal in raising awareness about the voter registration process and encouraging participation, according to Rinwa.
Draft and Final Electoral Rolls
The draft electoral roll, published on January 6, 2026, indicated a total of 125,556,025 voters, comprising approximately 68.8 million male voters, 56.7 million female voters, and 4,119 third-gender voters. Among these, voters aged 18-19 totaled 333,981, and the gender ratio stood at 824 females for every 1,000 males at that time.
As per the final electoral roll published on April 10, the total voter count reached 133,984,792. This list included 73,071,071 male voters (around 54 percent), 60,909,525 female voters (45.46 percent), and 4,206 third-gender voters (less than 0.01 percent). The number of voters aged 18-19 increased to 1,763,360, representing 1.32 percent of the total electorate, while the gender ratio improved to 834 females for every 1,000 males.
Comparative Analysis of Voter Growth
Rinwa provided a comparison of the draft and final electoral rolls, indicating an overall rise of 8,428,767 voters. This increase encompassed 4,227,902 additional male voters, 4,200,778 female voters, and 87 third-gender voters. Notably, the age group of 18-19 years saw an increase of 1,429,379 voters, with the gender ratio improving by ten points from 824 to 834.
Among the districts, Prayagraj recorded the most significant growth in voter numbers, with an increase of 329,421. Other districts showing substantial increases include Lucknow with 285,961, Bareilly exceeding 257,000, Ghaziabad with 243,666, and Jaunpur with 237,590 additional voters.
