Punjab Police Arrest Main Accused In Punjabi Influencer Kamal Kaur’s Murder
Key Suspect Arrested Following Deportation
Punjab Police apprehended Amritpal Singh Mehron, the main suspect in the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, on Friday after his deportation from the Middle East. The police did not disclose the specific country from which he was returned.
Mehron, a 30-year-old resident of Moga and self-proclaimed radical Sikh leader, reportedly fled to the United Arab Emirates following Kumari’s murder, which took place in June 2025. Officials in Bathinda had previously issued a lookout circular for him.
Details of the Influencer’s Death
Kumari, who was known on social media platforms as “Kamal Kaur Bhabhi,” was discovered deceased in an abandoned vehicle located in a parking area in Bathinda.
Authorities had already arrested three individuals in connection with the case. Among them, Jaspreet Singh from Moga and Nimratjit Singh from Tarn Taran admitted to the crime, claiming they killed Kumari due to her sharing of “immoral and vulgar content that offended the sentiments of the Sikh community.”
Arrest Announcement by Punjab Police
Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, announced the arrest via a post on X, stating that Mehron was taken into custody at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport shortly after his deportation.
In his statement, DGP Yadav emphasized the collaborative effort between Bathinda Police, the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) under the Counter Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police, and various central agencies that led to the apprehension of Mehron. “In a major breakthrough, we have arrested the main accused in the high-profile murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari,” he stated.
Circumstances Surrounding the Crime
Yadav elaborated on the details surrounding the murder, mentioning that on June 11, 2025, Mehron and three accomplices were involved in the abduction and subsequent murder of Kumari, whose body was discarded in a car parked at Adesh Hospital in Bathinda. The police confirmed that his co-accused have already been detained in relation to the case.
Following the crime, Mehron fled abroad in an attempt to escape legal accountability. Punjab Police diligently collaborated with central agencies to track his whereabouts in the Middle East, initiating extradition proceedings that ultimately resulted in his deportation and arrest on April 10, 2026.
Threats Issued by the Accused
In a video that circulated on social media after Kumari’s death, Mehron allegedly stated that the influencer was murdered by two of his associates as a reaction to her “immoral and vulgar content.” He also warned others who engage in creating “objectionable content” to cease such activities.
Prior to his arrest, police reported that Mehron had threatened at least two other female social media influencers in Punjab. The Punjab Police have reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against organized crime and actions detrimental to national interests, affirming their dedication to maintaining safety and security in Punjab.
