EAM Jaishankar to Visit UAE to Strengthen Strategic Ties Following US-Iran Ceasefire
Official Visit Scheduled
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to travel to the United Arab Emirates later this month, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday. The official visit is planned for April 11 to 12, 2026.
During his visit, Jaishankar will engage with the leadership of the UAE to assess and enhance the close cooperation between the two nations. The focus will be on deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that exists between India and the UAE.
Context of the Visit
This trip comes amid a temporary easing of tensions between the United States and Iran, which recently agreed to a two-week ceasefire. This agreement aims to halt hostilities and facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, an essential route for global oil shipments.
Despite the ceasefire, concerns continue regarding its stability and the broader issues of maritime security and energy supply chains in the region.
Safety Measures for Indian Citizens in Iran
In light of the ongoing situation in Iran, India has taken measures to ensure the safety of its citizens there. The Indian Embassy in Tehran has advised Indian nationals to leave the country using designated routes. They have also warned against traveling towards international borders without proper coordination.
Of the approximately 9,000 Indian nationals in Iran at the beginning of the conflict, around 1,800 have returned to India thus far.
Additional Regional Engagements
In addition to the UAE trip, the MEA has disclosed that Jaishankar will also visit Mauritius on April 9 and 10, 2026. This visit is planned for participation in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference.
During his time in Mauritius, Jaishankar is expected to meet with the Mauritian leadership to discuss and review the complete range of bilateral relations between India and Mauritius.
