14-Year-Old Gives Birth; Case Filed Against Newborn’s Father: Police
Girl Gives Birth at District Hospital
A 14-year-old girl delivered a baby boy on Tuesday at the district hospital in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The incident has prompted local authorities to file a case against the father of the newborn.
According to L S Khati, the Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee, the young girl was experiencing severe labor pains. Acting in her best interest, the committee took on the role of her guardian and signed the required consent forms for medical procedures to be carried out.
Legal Action Initiated
Khati confirmed that a case has been registered against the father of the child at the Munsyari Police Station. The charges fall under several legal provisions, including Sections 64(1), 87, and 5/6 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Justice Code), as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Reports indicate that the alleged father, who resides in Pune, came forward claiming paternity. The minor girl disclosed to the committee that her parents had separated when she was very young. Last year, she became involved with the young man, leading her to move to Pune, where she ultimately became pregnant.
Future Arrangements for the Mother and Child
Once discharged from the hospital, arrangements will be made for the young mother and her newborn. They are planned to be placed in a special adoption agency, where they will receive the necessary care and support until the girl reaches the age of 18.
