Bengal Assembly Elections: Over 3.6 Crore Voters Eligible for First Phase Polls on April 23
Voter Statistics Released by Election Commission
According to the Election Commission, more than 3.6 crore electors from 16 districts are eligible to participate in the first phase of the West Bengal assembly elections scheduled for April 23. The electoral rolls for this phase include a total of 1.84 crore male voters, 1.75 crore female voters, and 465 voters identifying as third gender, indicating a diverse electoral demographic.
The first phase of polling will take place across 152 constituencies. The remaining 142 constituencies are set to hold elections in the second phase on April 29, with vote counting planned for May 4.
District-wise Voter Distribution
Among the various districts, Murshidabad boasts the largest voter base, with 50.26 lakh electors. Following closely, Purba Medinipur has 41.60 lakh voters, and Paschim Medinipur reports 37.70 lakh electors. Conversely, Kalimpong has the smallest voter count, with only 2.01 lakh registered voters.
In the northern regions of West Bengal, Cooch Behar has a voter population of 22.63 lakh. Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar report 17.19 lakh and 11.64 lakh electors, respectively, while Darjeeling district has a total of 11.10 lakh voters. Additionally, Uttar Dinajpur has a voter base of 19.68 lakh, and Dakshin Dinajpur includes 11.59 lakh electors. Malda district has a total of 27.91 lakh voters.
From the western districts, Bankura has 29.19 lakh voters, Purulia has 22.52 lakh, and Jhargram has a voter count of 9.10 lakh. Paschim Bardhaman accounts for 19.65 lakh voters, while Birbhum reports 26.91 lakh electors.
Election Commission’s Assurance on Voter Accuracy
An official from the Election Commission stated that the electoral rolls have been updated to enhance their accuracy and promote voter participation. The rolls have been revised and verified to ensure maximum accuracy and inclusiveness. The official assured that all necessary measures have been implemented to facilitate the participation of eligible voters in the electoral process without any inconvenience.
