Four More Arrested in Amravati Online Exploitation Case
Rise in Total Arrests
On Thursday, four additional individuals were apprehended in Amravati, bringing the total number of arrests related to the circulation of explicit content online and the sexual exploitation of minors to eight. Amravati (Rural) Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishal Anand confirmed the ongoing investigation into the case.
SP Anand informed the media that one of the accused had downloaded explicit content and disseminated it to others. “We have established part of the chain through which the content was shared, and further digital links are still being investigated,” he stated.
Main Accused Identified
The primary suspect, identified as Ayan Ahmad Tanvir Ahmad (19), faces charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Information Technology Act of 2000. He has been placed in police custody until April 21, and his mobile device has been seized as part of the investigation.
Alongside Ayan, the other accused are Uzair Khan Iqbal Khan (20), Mohammad Saad Mohammad Sabir (22), Tarbej Khan Taslim Khan (24), Manav Deepak Sugandhe (20), Aifaz Khan Mansur Khan (26), Mohammad Imran Mohammad Sajid (21), and Sheikh Naved Sheikh Hasan (21).
Details of the Offense
According to police reports, Ayan acknowledged that he sexually exploited several girls at the rented apartment of his friend, Manav. This property, which was available for hourly rentals, has since been sealed, and a panchnama has been completed by the authorities.
The role of the property owner of the rented space is currently under scrutiny, with law enforcement stating that appropriate actions will be taken should evidence of involvement emerge.
Evidence Seized and Investigation Continues
During a house search, police seized various electronic devices from Aifaz, including mobile phones, a laptop, a tablet, and a hard disk, all set for forensic examination. Police have conducted thorough searches at the residences of all accused individuals in the case.
Officials have reported that some data may have been deleted, and efforts are underway to recover it through forensic analysis. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is leading the probe, with assistance from the cyber cell to evaluate the seized devices.
Victim Count and Community Response
SP Anand clarified that the department is presenting verified details during the investigation. He addressed concerns regarding rumors suggesting a higher victim count, confirming that currently, there are eight known victims. “If additional victims are identified, we will make that information public,” he affirmed.
The principal accused was reportedly active on social media for approximately two years, utilizing these platforms to connect with potential victims. “Around 90 percent of the interactions with victims appear to have been conducted through social media,” noted SP Anand.
Ongoing Evaluations
Although the accused have claimed to have acted independently, authorities are investigating all avenues, including the potential for broader criminal collaboration. “Thus far, we have not discovered any evidence of an organized effort to ensnare victims, but we are keeping all possibilities open,” said SP Anand.
Representatives from the Minority Commission and the district’s Women and Child Welfare Department have engaged with police to discuss measures for victim support, which include counseling and legal assistance initiatives.
