Army Officer’s Family Alleges Assault by Drunk Men in Delhi
Incident Overview
An Army officer and his family reported an incident of alleged harassment and assault by a group of men consuming alcohol outside their residence in Vasant Enclave, New Delhi, on April 11. The officer’s wife claims that a Police Control Room (PCR) team present at the scene failed to take appropriate action.
The Delhi Police have stated that they are currently verifying the complaint and are in the process of registering a case related to the incident.
Details of the Allegations
According to the woman’s complaint, the events unfolded around 10 PM when she noticed two men allegedly drinking alcohol in a parked car near their home. The woman reportedly has photographic and video evidence of the vehicle in question.
Upon confronting the men about their behavior, she alleged they responded with inappropriate remarks. Fearing for her safety, she called her husband and son for assistance and also contacted the police helpline at 112. A PCR vehicle responded to the location shortly after.
Police Response and Escalation
The complainant claims that instead of intervening, the PCR personnel allegedly engaged in conversation with the occupants of the car, who then made phone calls to associates. This resulted in a larger group of men arriving at the location.
According to the woman, this group assaulted her husband and son for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, during which they reportedly continued to make disrespectful comments, further distressing the family.
Lodging the Complaint
By around 10:50 PM, the family arrived at the Vasant Vihar police station to formally report the incident. However, the woman alleges that there was a delay in registering their complaint and sought medical assistance for her son, who had sustained injuries during the altercation.
After waiting for over an hour, the woman submitted an official complaint, requesting the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the individuals involved on charges of assault, harassment, and misconduct. The complaint bears the stamp of the Vasant Vihar police station, dated April 12, indicating it was received officially.
Response from Military Authorities
The Indian Army has stated that it takes the allegations seriously and has directed a military police team to collaborate with the officer. Furthermore, the army has requested the Delhi Police to expedite their investigation and take prompt action on the matter.
