Congress Alleges Delay in NEET Leak Probe Linked to BJP Youth Wing Leader

Allegations of Cover-Up

The Congress party in Rajasthan has raised concerns regarding the delay in the investigation into the NEET UG paper leak, claiming it is connected to a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP’s youth wing. This allegation was made during a press conference on Wednesday, where Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully stated that the state government may have concealed the issue for nine days and did not file a First Information Report (FIR) as a direct result.

According to Congress representatives, the BJYM leader, along with his brother, allegedly acquired the NEET UG question paper last month in Gurgaon and sold it to students in Sikar for substantial profits.

Government’s Response to the Allegations

The BJYM leader, currently unreachable, has not yet responded to the allegations. An attempt to contact his son yielded a statement wherein he claimed to be unaware of his father’s whereabouts or involvement in the situation. “I don’t know about it, I am in Sikar,” the son said.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has also commented on the situation, suggesting that the state government made efforts to cover up the matter for up to two weeks. He further claimed that the cancellation of the NEET (UG) entrance exam was indicative of widespread malpractice linked to the leaked paper.

Cancellation of NEET Exam

Gehlot asserted that the BJP government had intentionally tried to obscure the situation, which has negatively impacted the prospects of many students. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has since taken decisive action by canceling the exam and transferring the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), a move Gehlot considers beneficial for students.

The former Chief Minister went on to criticize the government’s handling of a previous OMR sheet scam involving the Employee Selection Board, claiming it was another instance of the administration prioritizing its image over accountability. He indicated that the accused in that case were granted bail due to inadequate prosecution efforts.

Political Context

These allegations come amidst a politically charged atmosphere in Rajasthan, where the BJP and Congress are vying for public trust. The ongoing controversy regarding the NEET exam leak continues to serve as a focal point in the current political discourse, highlighting issues of governance and transparency in the state.

As the Congress party pushes for clarity and accountability in the investigation, the BJP has yet to officially respond to these allegations. The outcomes of the ongoing inquiries may significantly influence both party positions and public perception in the lead-up to future electoral engagements.
