No Compromise on Rights: CM Directs Enforcement of Labour Laws
Strengthening Labour Law Enforcement
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives to enhance the enforcement of labour laws across Uttar Pradesh, emphasizing the importance of worker safety, dignity, and rights. The instructions were shared by a government spokesperson following a high-level review meeting chaired by the chief minister on Sunday.
During the meeting, CM Adityanath expressed concern over emerging discontent and recent protests among workers in several industrial sectors. He urged industrial development authorities to establish direct communication with industrial associations, labour representatives, and management teams within 24 hours to ensure that workers’ concerns are addressed promptly through constructive dialogue.
Fair Wages and Safe Work Environments
The chief minister highlighted the necessity for timely and equitable remuneration, stating that workers should receive their wages on schedule and be adequately compensated for overtime in accordance with existing regulations. The chief minister reiterated that industries must provide essential facilities, which include safe workplaces, clean drinking water, sanitation services, rest areas, healthcare, and appropriate safety equipment.
Furthermore, CM Adityanath issued directives concerning regulated working hours, the safety of women workers, and access to social security schemes. He emphasized the need for effective mechanisms to address grievances within the workforce.
Coordination Among Authorities
The Labour Department has been tasked to work closely with local administrations and foster ongoing engagement with industrial units, regardless of their size. This proactive approach aims to resolve issues early and prevent potential escalation. CM Adityanath specified that discussions should solely involve genuine workers, cautioning against external individuals who may misrepresent worker interests and incite unrest.
He acknowledged concerns regarding possible attempts to provoke disturbances related to labour issues, pointing out the historical context of Naxalism, which, although significantly diminished, could resurface as a consequence of such actions.
Increased Vigilance in Industrial Areas
CM Adityanath called for heightened vigilance across industrial regions, instructing the activation of intelligence networks to monitor any groups attempting to instigate disorder. Strict measures are to be taken against those engaging in activities that could threaten stability within the workforce.
In light of these developments, special directives have been issued to district administrations in major industrial hubs, including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Meerut, Firozabad, Moradabad, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), as well as those from the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authorities, have been instructed to maintain vigilance and proactive responses.
The review meeting included participation from several key officials, including Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Nandi, MSME Minister Rakesh Sachan, and Labour and Employment Minister Anil Rajbhar, among other senior government representatives.
