Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin Travels on Chennai Metro During Election Campaign
Surprise Metro Ride
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin made an unexpected appearance on the Chennai Metro on Friday, traveling from Chennai Central to DMS station. This trip was part of his campaign efforts ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
During the journey, Stalin engaged with passengers, conversing with daily commuters and soliciting their support for his party, transforming a standard metro ride into an opportunity for public outreach.
Describing the Experience
Stalin shared a video of his ride on the social media platform X, describing the experience as “a journey filled with people’s affection.” He took the opportunity to highlight his involvement in the metro project when he served as the Deputy Chief Minister.
He recounted traveling to Japan to secure funding support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the project. He emphasized that the first phase of the metro, which connects significant routes like Wimco Nagar to the airport and Central to St Thomas Mount, has already facilitated millions of journeys.
Future Expansion Plans
Stalin mentioned that the second phase of the metro’s expansion is progressing quickly and pledged that once completed, Chennai would rank among the cities with the longest metro connectivity in India. He concluded with an appeal for collaboration in realizing the vision of developing Chennai.
Campaign Progress and Activities
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister interacted with morning commuters and requested votes for the DMK-led alliance before proceeding to other campaign venues.
In recent days, Stalin has ramped up his grassroots outreach, notably conducting a morning walk in Sirkazhi, where he engaged with residents and shared tea at a local establishment while seeking their support.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has also been active on the campaign trail, engaging voters in Chennai’s Triplicane constituency.
Upcoming Elections
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled for April 23, with the counting of votes taking place on May 4. The primary competition is expected to be between the DMK-led alliance and the NDA bloc led by AIADMK and BJP. The entry of actor-turned-politician Vijay into the political arena is anticipated to add further complexity to the electoral contest.
