Odisha Plans to Transform 800 Schools into Model Educational Institutes

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Sunday that approximately 800 schools in the state are set to be developed into model educational institutions under the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.

Majhi noted that these schools would be enhanced with modern infrastructure, digital education, smart classrooms, and innovative teaching approaches. This initiative aims to improve educational standards across the state.

Focus on Holistic Education

During an event at Kushaleswar Government High School in Keonjhar district, the Chief Minister emphasized that education extends beyond merely securing employment; it serves as a foundation for building a fulfilling life. He highlighted the need for skills, creativity, and innovation in today’s competitive landscape.

Majhi commended the school’s education system, which he described as comprehensive, teaching not only academic subjects but also ethics, discipline, and values.

Financial Commitments and Teaching Staff

The state budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 has allocated over Rs 31,997 crore for the school and mass education department, reflecting a commitment to enhancing educational resources.

In the past twenty months, around 20,000 teaching positions have been filled, with plans to recruit an additional 45,000 teachers in the near future. This effort is part of a broader strategy to improve teaching capacity and quality in Odisha.

Establishment of Primary Schools

Moreover, the Chief Minister mentioned ongoing efforts to establish Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary Schools in every panchayat, aiming to provide quality primary education to every child in the state.

The PM SHRI School scheme is a centrally sponsored initiative by the Government of India designed to create safe and engaging learning environments. It aims to provide a variety of educational experiences while ensuring good physical infrastructure and appropriate resources for effective learning.

This program aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020, which seeks to foster student engagement and cultivate responsible citizens who contribute positively to a diverse and inclusive society.
