RG Kar Victim’s Mother Campaigns for Justice in West Bengal Elections
Mother of Rape-Murder Victim Files Nomination
Kolkata: The mother of the RG Kar rape-murder victim and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in West Bengal, made headlines once again as she filed her nomination on Thursday. She wore a saree that featured the phrase ‘Shaktirupena Sangsthita,’ translating to ’embodiment of strength.’ This attire choice parallels her previous campaign, where she wore a saree with the slogan “Merudanda Bikri Nei,” meaning “My spine is not for sale.”
On this occasion, she was not alone; she was joined by notable figures such as former Union minister Smriti Irani and Biplab Deb, the ex-Chief Minister of Tripura. The candidate first visited a Shiva-Kali temple with her husband, along with local BJP officials and supporters before heading to officially submit her nomination.
Rally and Calls for Justice
Following the nomination submission, a rally was organized where local BJP workers passionately chanted slogans demanding justice. During the rally, the mother reiterated her commitment to removing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, emphasizing her determination for justice on behalf of her daughter.
At the gathering, Smriti Irani praised the candidate, emphasizing her significance beyond mere party affiliation. Irani stated, “This mother is not just a BJP candidate; she represents every woman in Bengal. Under her leadership, Bengal will get justice.”
Financial Disclosures
As part of the nomination process, the candidate disclosed her financial assets in an affidavit. The total value of her movable assets, which include various bank fixed deposits, savings accounts, and jewelry, is reported to be Rs 19 lakh. It was noted that she co-owns a car valued at Rs 8 lakh with her husband.
The affidavit also revealed that her husband’s movable assets are valued at Rs 36 lakh. This financial disclosure is part of the standard procedure for candidates contesting in the elections in West Bengal.
