TCS Nashik Scandal: FIRs Reveal Four-Year Pattern of Allegations
Investigation Overview
An extensive investigation concerning allegations of sexual exploitation, workplace harassment, and religious coercion at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) unit in Nashik has emerged, showcasing a troubling pattern of misconduct that has continued for nearly four years.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) examining these allegations indicates that incidents have been reported from 2022 to early 2026, suggesting a sustained trend rather than isolated complaints.
Details of the Allegations
Reports from multiple FIRs detail disturbing instances involving women employees who have described colleagues making inappropriate remarks, staring at their bodies during meetings, and showing sexual advances disguised as casual interactions. Some incidents included unwelcome physical contact, such as touching hands and feet, despite clear indications of discomfort from the victims.
Additionally, several complainants reported being followed within the workplace, subjected to unwarranted staring, and receiving inappropriate proposals. Distressingly, some women cited intrusive questions regarding their private and marital lives, including concerns about their fertility.
In particularly egregious cases, one woman alleged that an individual made gestures towards her private parts and continuously stared at her chest, leading to significant humiliation during work-related interactions. Another complainant indicated that even after her explicit objections, she faced relentless advances and lewd discussions.
The Role of a Staff Member
Investigators have highlighted the involvement of Nida Khan, a staff member named in a separate case, who is accused of facilitating connections between certain employees and victims. Police reports indicate that she functioned as a link, allowing access to individuals rather than engaging in any formal processes for addressing grievances.
Khan is alleged to have introduced female employees to some accused individuals, thus reinforcing their influence and presence in the workplace without being part of the Human Resources or grievance system.
Religious Intimidation Allegations
Several complainants have reported offensive remarks made by accused employees about Hindu deities, as well as coercive attempts at religious conversion. Allegedly, some individuals pressured victims into consuming non-vegetarian food and adopting specific Islamic practices, including requests to offer namaz and change their attire.
The allegations take a serious turn with claims against an individual named Tausif Attar, who allegedly engaged in a physical relationship with a complainant under the guise of marriage.
Investigation Progress
The SIT, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sandeep Mitke, is now investigating all related cases to determine if workplace protections under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) framework were implemented correctly, as well as whether any complaints were suppressed or ignored.
Preliminary reports indicate that the alleged misconduct spanned from 2022 until early 2026, suggesting that multiple victims may have endured these issues over time. Police have arrested several individuals, including Danish Sheikh, Tausif Attar, Raza Memon, Shahrukh Qureshi, Shafi Sheikh, and Asif Aftab Ansari.
TCS Response
In light of the controversy, TCS has suspended all employees implicated in the allegations and has reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of harassment or coercion. The company has expressed its intent to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran described the allegations as “gravely concerning and anguishing,” and has initiated an internal investigation led by Chief Operating Officer Aarthi Subramanian to ensure accountability and enforce rigorous action against anyone found culpable.
