PM Modi Outlines Six Guarantees for West Bengal and Critiques Trinamool Congress

During a rally in Haldia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of promoting “cut money, loot, and appeasement.” He advocated for a “double engine government,” referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that it is essential for the state’s progress. Modi emphasized that collaboration between the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister would yield benefits for the people of Bengal and highlighted the importance of a BJP-led government for self-reliance in fisheries and food production.

West Bengal will conduct elections in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with votes scheduled to be counted on May 4. Modi’s comments were made as part of his campaign to position the BJP as a viable alternative in the upcoming elections.

Six Key Promises Made by PM Modi

In his speech, Modi presented six guarantees to the citizens of Bengal, framing them as fundamental changes to be expected under a BJP government. The first guarantee involves ending the “atmosphere of fear” that he claims has been perpetuated by the TMC. He stated, “Trinamool spreads fear. People are compelled to seek justice from the courts. The BJP government will replace this atmosphere of fear with trust and restore faith in the rule of law.”

The second guarantee focuses on accountability within the government system. Modi assured that under a BJP administration, the government will prioritize service to the people, stating, “The government system will be accountable for serving the people.” He also emphasized that files related to corruption would be thoroughly investigated as part of the third guarantee.

“Files regarding every scam, act of corruption, and injustice committed against daughters will be opened,” he pledged, adding that individuals involved in corrupt practices would be subject to legal consequences. The fourth guarantee reiterated that those engaged in corruption could face imprisonment under a BJP government, promising that no one, regardless of their position, would evade justice.

Modi claimed that under TMC governance, a “syndicate-driven system” operates, where transactions are contingent upon “cut money and commissions.” He stressed that factories need an environment of trust to function, asserting that such trust can only be fostered by the BJP. Consequently, he expressed confidence that a government led by the BJP would replicate the development successes observed in other BJP-ruled states in Bengal.

In his fifth guarantee, Modi addressed the rights of refugees, stating that they would be afforded all rights under the Constitution while asserting that “infiltrators will be expelled.” Furthermore, he promised immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission for government employees should the BJP come to power in West Bengal. The sixth guarantee highlighted his support for government employees and teachers, ensuring that they would no longer live in fear.

Concluding his address, PM Modi reiterated his commitment to the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Support for all, development for all) but added a caveat specifically for Bengal: “Sabka hisaab hoga” (those who have looted Bengal will be held accountable). This statement served as a warning to the TMC regarding accountability for past governance.
