Top JEE Main Performer Bhavesh Patra Discusses Exam Strategies and Mindset
Outstanding Academic Achievement
Bhavesh Patra, an 18-year-old resident of Jayadev Vihar, Bhubaneswar, has emerged as one of only 26 students to achieve a perfect score of 100 percentile in the JEE Main exams for 2026. He also scored 99.99 percentile in the second session of the examination.
Approach to Stress Management
Despite the pressure of competitive exams, Patra maintained a focused outlook. He revealed that he did not plan to celebrate his results, as he aims to continue his preparation for the upcoming JEE Advanced. “My parents did not impose any strict expectations; they only encouraged me to study well,” he said.
Reflecting on his experience attending the JEE Main, Patra admitted to feeling pressure mainly during the first session, but this stress diminished over time. He approached his studies with a pragmatic mindset, reassuring himself that “the worst-case scenario would simply be not attending an IIT, leaving many other good colleges as alternatives.” This perspective helped him manage his anxiety effectively.
Preparation Strategies
Patra’s preparation strategy revolved around advice from his teachers at school and his coaching institute, Allen. He noted that preparing for the JEE while simultaneously studying for his Class 12 board examinations allowed him to reinforce his academic knowledge. “I didn’t face many struggles and was fortunate in that regard,” he said.
While he did not adhere to a strict daily schedule, Patra aimed to study at least 10 hours a day, which included 5-6 hours dedicated to self-study. He showcased a strong aptitude for mathematics and completed the JEE syllabus a month prior to his first exam attempt. “It is essential for candidates to focus on revision and test analysis, as it aids in identifying weak areas,” he advised.
Future Aspirations
As he looks toward the future, Patra has yet to designate a specific IIT or branch of engineering for his studies, stating, “I have not thought about it yet. I only know that I need to make my best efforts.” His final decision will come after the JEE Advanced exam, set for May 17, 2026. Additionally, he has expressed an interest in participating in Maths Olympiads once his college journey begins.
Advice for Future Aspirants
In his free time, Patra enjoys playing the keyboard and is eager to resume this activity once his exams conclude.
