On Monday, Spotify announced the launch of its new fitness initiative, dubbed “Fitness with Spotify,” marking its entry into the realm of guided workouts. The Swedish music streaming giant plans to integrate structured fitness content alongside its extensive offerings of music, podcasts, audiobooks, and video, positioning itself as a competitor to Apple Fitness+ and Fitbit. The new feature will be accessible to both free and premium users, with added content for subscribers through various partnerships.

Features of the Fitness Experience

The update introduces a dedicated Fitness hub within the Spotify app, featuring curated workout playlists and guided sessions across several categories, including strength training, cardio, yoga, meditation, and recovery. Spotify has collaborated with various wellness creators, such as Yoga with Kassandra, Chloe Ting, and Pilates Body by Raven, to provide structured content that complements the existing audio library.

Partnership with Peloton

As part of its rollout, Spotify has partnered with the US-based exercise equipment and media company Peloton. This collaboration will offer over 1,400 on-demand classes to premium users in supported markets. The ad-free classes will include a range of guided workouts, from outdoor runs to mat-based training sessions, with instruction from well-known trainers such as Rebecca Kennedy, Ally Love, and Rad Lopez.

Device Compatibility and User Experience

Spotify has ensured that its fitness content does not require specialized equipment and can be downloaded for offline access. The platform is designed to facilitate seamless usage across various devices, allowing users to begin a workout video on a television, switch to audio on their mobile device during a run, and continue recovery sessions on a smart speaker—all within the same app.

User Behavior Analysis

According to Spotify, the expansion into fitness builds on current user habits, as evidenced by over 150 million fitness playlists that are actively used globally. The company reports that nearly 70 percent of its premium subscribers engage in workout-related activities on the platform each month, highlighting a significant interest in fitness content among its user base.

Accessing the Fitness Hub

The Fitness hub can be accessed by searching for “fitness” within the Spotify app, or by navigating through the Browse section. While most of the available workouts are currently in English, selected sessions are offered in Spanish and German, catering to a broader audience.

Competing with Established Services

This new development positions Spotify in competition with Apple Fitness+ and Fitbit, though each service adopts a different approach. Apple Fitness+ is closely integrated with Apple devices, while Fitbit relies on wearable technology for health tracking. In contrast, Spotify leverages its existing content ecosystem and cross-platform accessibility to provide fitness experiences without the need for dedicated hardware.
