Samsung Galaxy Glasses to Feature Ray-Ban Meta-Like Design and Gemini Integration

Introduction of Extended Reality Glasses

Samsung is preparing to launch its first pair of extended reality (XR) glasses later this year, with details emerging ahead of any official announcement. Reports suggest that these smart glasses will be influenced by existing products in the market, particularly the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, in terms of design. This initiative is set to enlarge Samsung’s Android XR ecosystem, following the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy XR.

Design and Specifications of the Galaxy Glasses

According to a report from Android Headlines, the upcoming glasses, codenamed “Jinju,” are expected to resemble existing smart glasses such as Meta’s Ray-Ban and Google’s prototype devices powered by Gemini. The design aims to be lightweight and suitable for everyday wear, distancing itself from bulkier headset designs that are currently common. This approach is intended to make the glasses more appealing for casual, everyday use.

The initial rollout of the Galaxy Glasses is rumored to lack a built-in display. Instead, Samsung is reportedly working on a subsequent model equipped with a micro-LED display, codenamed “Haean,” expected to be launched in 2027.

Operational Platform and Features

The smart glasses are anticipated to function on the Android XR platform, a system that Samsung is co-developing with Google. Notably, the Galaxy XR mixed reality headset also operates on this same platform. Leaked specifications indicate that the Galaxy Glasses will utilize the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 chipset and feature a 155mAh battery, with an estimated weight of around 50 grams. For photographic capabilities, it may include a 12-megapixel Sony IMX681 camera, with connectivity options anticipated to cover Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3.

The Galaxy Glasses are also expected to incorporate directional speakers and may explore bone-conduction audio technology, consistent with Samsung’s existing patents. Furthermore, the device may feature photochromic lenses, which are designed to adjust to various lighting conditions.

Integration with Gemini AI

A significant highlight of the Galaxy Glasses is anticipated to be the deep integration with Gemini AI. This integration would potentially enable users to undertake a variety of tasks in real time, including translating text, navigation through maps, receiving weather updates, and interacting with contextual information. Many of these features have already been seen in previous Ray-Ban Meta Glasses iterations, suggesting that Samsung aims to position its Galaxy Glasses as a competitive offering in the smart glasses market.

Future Launches and Pricing Expectations

The Galaxy Glasses are expected to represent Samsung’s next major entry into the wearable tech domain, following previous launches of a smart ring and the Galaxy XR headset. The company is already active in the XR space with its Galaxy XR headset, competing against notable products such as the Apple Vision Pro and XReal.

While there are no definitive details on pricing yet, reports suggest that the initial non-display model of the Galaxy Glasses could be priced at approximately $379 (around Rs. 36,000) and $499 (around Rs. 47,000) for the US market. In contrast, the forthcoming display model slated for release in 2027 might carry a significantly higher price tag. However, these estimates are subject to change as the release date approaches.
