MS Dhoni to Attend Chepauk, Likely to Miss Match Against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Dhoni Set for Presence at MA Chidambaram Stadium

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is expected to be present at the MA Chidambaram Stadium for the Chennai Super Kings’ final home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The veteran cricketer, aged 44, has not attended any matches this season, opting to remain at the team hotel even during home fixtures.

Despite his anticipated appearance, it appears unlikely that Dhoni will participate in the match in any capacity, including as an Impact Player. He is reportedly dealing with a new injury sustained during a training session.

Details of Dhoni’s Injury

Prior to a trip to Lucknow, Dhoni suffered a thumb injury while practicing in the nets. Although he had initially planned to travel, he later decided to remain in Chennai. The Indian Express has reported that Dhoni batted for approximately 30 minutes in the nets the day before the match, displaying no visible signs of discomfort during his practice.

Despite his apparent readiness, Dhoni concluded that he would not be able to participate due to not being at full fitness. Even though there was speculation that he could play as an Impact Player, his recent injury setback has seemingly ruled that out.

Dhoni’s Role During Final League Match

Even though he will not play, Dhoni is expected to partake in the traditional lap of honour, which occurs at the conclusion of Chennai’s last league match. This ritual is a significant event celebrating the contributions of the players.

CSK’s Position in the League

Dhoni has been sidelined for several weeks due to injury at the start of the season, which has limited his involvement in matches. For away games, he has also chosen to stay in Chennai rather than travel with the team.

After recovering from an earlier calf injury, he hesitated to take a spot on the team, preferring to let Kartik Sharma—who has been developing within the franchise—maintain his position.

The injury to Jamie Overton created an opportunity for Dhoni to return; however, the recent thumb injury means the team may explore other options. Dian Forrester, a South African all-rounder who joined CSK as a replacement for Overton, could be considered for selection after completing an extensive training session.

CSK’s Playoff Ambitions

With a total of 12 points from 12 matches, the Chennai Super Kings need to secure victories in their last two matches in order to qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2026.
