iPhone 18 Pro CAD Renders Indicate Smaller Dynamic Island and Consistent Rear Camera Design

Design Features Revealed in Recent Leaks

Apple is anticipated to unveil the iPhone 18 series at competitive prices, in spite of rising component costs. A recent leak has provided insights into the potential design of the iPhone 18 Pro. Reports suggest that CAD renders of the device have emerged, showcasing a notably smaller Dynamic Island.

CAD renders released by X user @earlyappleleaks (and reported by Android Headlines) indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro may feature a Dynamic Island that measures approximately 14.98mm in width, which is about 25 percent smaller than the Dynamic Island found on the iPhone 17 Pro. Previous leaks involving dummy units and screen protectors have also hinted at a reduction in cutout size, with some estimates indicating a decrease of up to 35 percent.

Potential Changes to Face ID Components

The possibility of a smaller Dynamic Island appears to be linked to Apple’s plan to position the Face ID flood illuminator beneath the display. Despite this modification, it is anticipated that the infrared camera will still necessitate a visible cutout, suggesting that a completely seamless full-screen design may not yet be achievable.

The Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped cutout located at the top center of the display, was first introduced in September 2022 with the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. This feature replaced the traditional wide notch used in earlier iPhone models. Historically, while Apple has made attempts to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, these changes have been more incremental than substantial over the years.

Exploring Design Options for the iPhone 18 Pro

There have been indications that Apple is assessing a range of design alternatives for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup as part of its A/B testing methodology. One design option maintains the current screen mould, while another proposes a smaller “Mini Dynamic Island.” If Apple decides to continue using existing moulds, it is possible that the Dynamic Island may remain largely unchanged, thereby minimizing one of the more significant upgrades that were expected.

Rear Camera Design Remains Consistent

In terms of the rear camera, the design for the iPhone 18 Pro is unlikely to undergo major alterations. Apple seems poised to continue with its incremental design philosophy this year. The new model is expected to keep the rectangular camera plateau design that has characterized previous iterations, although there may be minor enhancements to materials and overall finishes.
