Google Expands Gemini-Powered Chrome Features to Seven New Countries
Wider Rollout in Asia-Pacific
Google has announced the expansion of its Gemini integration within the Chrome browser to users in seven additional countries. The new locations include Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. This update will be available for both desktop and iOS users in these regions, though support in Japan is currently limited to desktop platforms.
This development is part of Google’s strategy to further integrate artificial intelligence into the browsing experience of Chrome. Over the past year, the company has enhanced user interactions with Gemini, introducing features designed to streamline web browsing.
Interactive Tools and Features
A notable feature introduced is a floating window that facilitates quick interactions without disrupting the user’s browsing session. Earlier in the year, Google also launched an information assistant located in the sidebar. This assistant is capable of answering queries, summarizing data, and consolidating information from multiple tabs, thereby improving the overall organization of the user’s browsing experience.
One significant advantage of these enhancements is what Google refers to as “personal intelligence.” This feature connects the Chrome extension to other Google products, allowing users to seamlessly perform various tasks directly from the browser. Examples include scheduling meetings through Google Calendar, exploring locations with Google Maps, and sending emails via Gmail.
Creative Tools for Users
In addition to these functionalities, the sidebar also houses creative tools that enable users to edit or transform images discovered on the web. One such tool is called Nano Banana 2, which adds versatility to everyday browsing tasks.
The Gemini features were first launched in the United States in January this year, followed by a gradual increase in access to users in India, Canada, and New Zealand by March. The recent expansion signifies a broader reach for the Gemini-powered features in the Asia-Pacific region.
Limitations of Advanced Features
Despite the rollout, some advanced functionalities remain in testing phases. One such capability is Google’s agentic feature, which permits Gemini to take control of the browser to execute tasks on behalf of users. Currently, this feature is accessible exclusively to subscribers of the company’s AI Pro and AI Ultra plans in the United States.
Google continues to develop and refine these AI integrations, aiming to enhance user experience across its products and services.
