AIMIM Terminates Alliance with Humayun Kabir’s Party Following Trinamool Video Controversy

Political Shift in West Bengal

Kolkata: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has officially ended its alliance with the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), led by suspended Trinamool MLA Humayun Kabir. This decision marks a significant shift in the political landscape of West Bengal as the state approaches its upcoming elections.

Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of AIMIM, has also decided to cancel his planned ten-day campaign in West Bengal, which was set to include joint appearances with Kabir aimed at engaging a key voter demographic. The move comes in the wake of a sting operation publicized by the Trinamool Congress, allegedly capturing Kabir discussing his associations with prominent leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In response to the released video, Kabir has claimed that the footage is the product of artificial intelligence manipulation and has sought to distance himself from its implications. Nevertheless, AIMIM’s announcement highlights the party’s concerns regarding the integrity and representation of Muslim communities in the region.

AIMIM’s Position on Marginalized Communities

AIMIM issued a statement indicating that the party could not align itself with any political figure or party that casts doubt on the integrity of Muslims in West Bengal. “Humayun Kabir’s revelations have shown how vulnerable Bengal’s Muslims are. That AIMIM cannot associate with any statements where integrity of Muslims is brought into question,” the party declared through its official social media channels.

The announcement further emphasized the urgency for AIMIM to advocate for marginalized groups, asserting that it will pursue an independent political strategy in Bengal. “Bengal’s Muslims are one of the poorest, neglected and oppressed communities. Despite decades of secular rule, nothing has been done for them,” the statement read, underscoring the party’s commitment to providing a political voice for these populations.

The AIMIM concluded that it will not engage in alliances with any party moving forward, stating, “We will be contesting the Bengal elections INDEPENDENTLY and will have no alliance with any party going forward.” This decision underscores AIMIM’s dedication to addressing the needs and concerns of marginalized communities while maintaining an independent stance in the political arena of West Bengal.
