Tragic Incident on Divine Road
A 17-year-old student, Krish Akbari, suffered fatal injuries in an accident involving a nilgai in Ahmedabad on March 31. The incident occurred when Krish was riding his scooter to a tuition class near Divine Road. Reports indicate that the nilgai, startled by the sound of a truck’s horn, suddenly jumped onto the road and collided with him.
Following the accident, Krish was rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery to stabilize his condition. Despite medical intervention, an MRI revealed irreversible brain damage due to a lack of oxygen, and he was subsequently declared brain-dead.
Family’s Decision for Organ Donation
In the wake of this tragedy, Krish’s parents made the decision to donate his organs. Their choice aimed to save the lives of others, resulting in the successful retrieval of multiple organs, including his heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, hands, and corneas. These organs were transplanted into six patients in need of transplants.
Krish’s aunt shared that he was dedicated to fitness and had aspirations of becoming a physiotherapist, inspired by a desire to help others heal. “He treated his body like a temple and spent hours studying anatomy,” she recounted.
Impact of Organ Donation
Krish’s father expressed that the decision to donate his son’s organs provided a way for Krish to continue living through others. “When doctors informed us there was no chance of recovery, we saw organ donation as an opportunity for our son to live on in others,” he stated. During Krish’s last rites, his heart was transplanted into a 13-year-old boy from Bhavnagar, while his hands were sent to a teenager in Faridabad. Other organs were distributed to patients in need, including kidneys to two teenagers, corneas to a patient in Ahmedabad, and lungs to another young individual.
