Pune Student Siddharth Athaley Tops JEE Mains with Unique Study Habits

Early Preparation and Unique Study Rituals

Siddharth Athaley, who recently achieved the top rank in JEE Mains, has been preparing for this challenging exam since he was in Class 8. Raised in a household that values education, Siddharth developed a distinct approach to his studies. Despite the serious nature of his preparation, he often lightens the atmosphere by singing songs from classic Bollywood films, particularly those featuring actors like Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand. This unique ritual involves him humming a line from a song, prompting his parents to join in by singing the next line, thereby creating a joyful study environment.

Siddharth attributes his success to his belief that joy lies within the work itself. He explains his philosophy regarding JEE preparations by stating, “If you enjoy it, it’s an unlimited source of happiness.” For him, the process of learning and problem-solving has always been rewarding, emphasizing that there is always something new to explore or a challenge to overcome.

Perspectives on Entrance Exams

When discussing the nature of entrance exams like JEE in India, Siddharth shares his perspective that these assessments should not be imposed on students. He believes there is a substantial misunderstanding surrounding these exams. “Anyone who is curious will like these entrance exams,” he states, suggesting that they primarily assess a student’s curiosity and understanding. He expresses concern over the lack of informed choices available to students, arguing that a student completing Class 10 should seek to explore various pathways before deciding on engineering. According to him, the exams become daunting when students approach them without genuine interest.

Siddharth’s views reflect a broader conversation on the pressures associated with educational pathways, advocating for students to choose their futures thoughtfully. He emphasizes that the choice of pursuing engineering should stem from an informed decision rather than societal expectations.

Support from Family

The support Siddharth receives from his parents is a key element of his success. His mother, Prajakta, notes that they prioritize his happiness over strict study schedules. “We never count how many hours he studies. He studies for as long as he’s happy doing so,” she explains. This flexible approach allows Siddharth to maintain a healthy balance between study and rest, fostering a more effective learning environment. Some days he studies for several hours, while on others, he may not study as much, which they accept as part of his process.

Siddharth believes in the importance of breaks during study, referring to them as “maintenance” rather than indulgence. He encourages fellow students to take breaks without feeling guilty and maintains that when focused on studying, one should not feel fatigued.

Upcoming Challenges and Hobbies

As Siddharth prepares for the next challenge, with the JEE Advanced exam scheduled for May 17, he looks forward to returning to his physical activities, particularly cricket, once the exam is complete. His passion for sports complements his academic pursuits, reflecting the balance he strives to maintain in life.

In summary, Siddharth Athaley’s unique study methods, family support, and personal philosophy contribute to his success in securing a top position in JEE Mains, while also providing insights into a healthier approach to education and personal development.
