Survey of Affected Areas Underway: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah
Monitoring Heavy Rain Situations
Mysuru (Karnataka) — At a press conference held on October 22, 2024, Chief Minister Siddaramiah provided updates regarding the ongoing situation due to heavy rainfall in the state. He assured that the situation was being closely monitored and necessary preparations were being made to address the challenges arising from it. The Chief Minister stated, “We have been monitoring the situation. All necessary preparations are underway. Surveys of the affected areas are also being conducted, and relief measures will be implemented promptly.”
Opposition Criticism Over Infrastructure
The heavy rains in Bengaluru have raised significant concerns among residents, leading to numerous issues including waterlogging. The Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) party criticized Chief Minister Siddaramiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for their governance, highlighting the deteriorating infrastructure. In a post on X, JDS remarked, “Welcome to *Brand Bengaluru*! Where a physically challenged woman falling into a pothole during heavy rains is just another day in paradise. While @siddaramaiah & @DKShivakumar keep patting themselves on the back for their ‘visionary’ governance, the city’s crumbling infrastructure is doing all the talking. BBMP’s mastery in turning roads into death traps is unmatched. *Bravo* on setting new standards of neglect and irresponsibility.”
Furthermore, BJP leader CT Ravi expressed outrage regarding the state of Bengaluru, questioning the loss of numerous ponds that once helped manage water overflow. He posed a critical question: “Bengaluru, despite being an international city, is in such a condition. Who is responsible?”
Upcoming By-Elections in Channapatna
In addition to the discussions on the rain situation, Chief Minister Siddaramiah provided insights into the political landscape as it relates to the upcoming by-elections in the Channapatna constituency. He mentioned that discussions are ongoing to select a suitable candidate for the constituency. Siddaramiah noted, “Discussions are ongoing about selecting a suitable candidate for the Channapatna constituency. The Congress ticket would be given to the wife of MP E. Tukaram. Discussions are on, and the final decision on ticket distribution for both Channapatna and Shiggaon constituencies will be made in the coming days.”
Channapatna will be holding by-elections on November 13, following the vacancy created by the election of JD(S) state President D Kumaraswamy to Lok Sabha from the Mandya parliamentary segment. This shift has initiated significant political maneuvers as parties vie for this critical seat.
Recent Resignation from Legislative Council
The political atmosphere has also been stirred by the recent resignation of Karnataka Legislative Council Member (MLC) CP Yogeshwar on October 21. He has expressed intentions to contest the upcoming Channapatna bye-elections as an independent candidate, further complicating the political dynamics in the region as various parties prepare for the electoral contest.
