College Students Kidnap Classmate with Fake Gun for Ransom

Incident Overview

In a shocking incident in Bengaluru, a group of college students kidnapped their classmate using a fake gun and subsequently attempted to extort money from his friends to fund their extravagant lifestyle. The event involved four students from various states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala, and Karnataka, who are currently enrolled at Jain University.

The victim, identified as Mohanty, originally from Odisha, was reportedly lured out of his hostel by the suspects. After forcing him into a vehicle, they transported him to a room belonging to one of the accused, where the kidnapping unfolded.

Ransom Demands

According to the police, the accused contacted Mohanty’s friends and demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000 for his release. Initially, the friends complied and transferred Rs 10,000. However, as doubts about the authenticity of the situation grew, they alerted the authorities.

Upon receiving the tip-off, local police acted promptly. They employed mobile location tracking to locate the victim and the suspects, leading to his swift rescue.

Police Action and Arrests

Following the rescue operation, police apprehended the four individuals involved in the kidnapping. Officers also confiscated several items linked to the crime, including a fake metal gun, a knife, and the car used during the incident.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were not first-time offenders; they reportedly operated as a gang and had previously threatened multiple students in a similar manner.
