7 Dead As Speeding Truck Runs Over Pilgrims On Gujarat Highway

The group of pilgrims was traveling on foot from Gadhka village in Rajkot towards a temple located in Dekawala. The incident occurred on the Lakhtar-Viramgam Highway near Bhaskarpara in Surendranagar district.
Circumstances of the Collision
The pilgrims were reportedly trying to navigate around a stationary dumper that had pulled over to the roadside for a tire change. In a sudden turn of events, a truck collided with the group from behind, striking approximately ten individuals.
The force of the collision was so severe that six of the pilgrims died at the scene of the accident. The tragedy unfolded quickly, leaving no time for many to react.
Response and Aftermath
Following the incident, passers-by promptly alerted local authorities, and law enforcement arrived at the accident site shortly thereafter. The speed and impact of the truck left a devastating scene, necessitating the use of shovels by rescue workers to collect the remains of some victims.
Additionally, the dumper driver, who was also struck by the truck during the incident, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at a hospital in Viramgam.
