Nitish Kumar Takes Oath as Rajya Sabha MP
Oath Ceremony in New Delhi
Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar officially took the oath as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. This comes just a few months after he was sworn in for his unprecedented 10th term as the Chief Minister of Bihar.
Kumar’s transition to the Rajya Sabha was announced last month, surprising many within political circles. This move enables the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a coalition partner of the Janata Dal (United), to potentially assume the chief ministership in Bihar for the first time.
Resignation from State Legislative Council
As a result of his election to the Rajya Sabha, Kumar has resigned from his position in the Bihar Legislative Council. However, there remains uncertainty regarding the timeline of his resignation from the chief minister role.
Senior JD(U) leader Shravan Kumar indicated that constitutional provisions permit a person to remain in the role of Chief Minister for up to six months after being elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Bihar Assembly Polls Outcome
The recent Bihar assembly elections, held in November, concluded with the BJP emerging as the largest party, followed closely by the JD(U). Their alliance under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieved a significant victory in the polls.
Public Sentiment on NDA Government
A poll has been launched to gauge public satisfaction regarding the performance of the NDA government in Bihar. Respondents are invited to express their views, with options ranging from “Very Satisfied” to “Dissatisfied”.
