Father Arrested for Murdering Daughter Over Matrimonial Dispute
Incident Details
A 17-year-old girl who was reported missing on April 16 in Sira taluk, located in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, has been discovered to have been murdered by her father, according to police reports released on Sunday.
The police apprehended the father, Thimmarayappa, aged 48, who resides in Nimbemaradahalli, in connection with the murder of his daughter, N T Meghana. Authorities tracked Thimmarayappa’s movements using data from Meghana’s mobile phone and local CCTV footage.
Reporting the Disappearance
Thimmarayappa and his wife, Nirmala, initially approached the Kallambella police on April 17 to report their daughter missing, claiming she had vanished the previous evening. When questioned about Meghana’s mobile phone, Thimmarayappa stated that she had taken it with her before disappearing.
A significant breakthrough in the case emerged when police examined the call detail records (CDR) of Meghana’s phone. They uncovered that an outgoing call had been made from her number five days after she was reported missing.
Investigation and Discovery
Law enforcement officials managed to track down the youth who received the call from Meghana’s number. During questioning, he revealed that an older man had asked for assistance in removing a SIM card from a device and had made a brief test call to his own number beforehand.
Suspecting foul play, the police reviewed CCTV footage from the location cited by the youth. The footage identified Thimmarayappa as the individual attempting to dispose of the SIM card related to Meghana’s phone.
Arrest and Charges
Upon summoning Thimmarayappa to the police station for a formal inquiry, he went into hiding after realizing police were onto him. Following his disappearance, his wife filed a second missing person’s complaint, which assisted tracking teams in locating and eventually arresting him.
As the investigation progressed, police learned that Meghana had been in a romantic relationship with a relative of her mother, a situation that Thimmarayappa strongly opposed. According to police statements, “Thimmarayappa wanted to marry Meghana to a man of his choice and not to Nirmala’s relative. When she refused, he decided to kill her.”
Crime Description
On April 16, Thimmarayappa is alleged to have taken Meghana to a farm, where he bludgeoned her to death. Following the fatal act, he reportedly buried her body on the land and returned home, subsequently filing the missing person complaint to cover up his crime.
Aftermath
Thimmarayappa has been taken into police custody, and authorities have exhumed Meghana’s body for a post-mortem examination to further investigate her death.
