Karnataka Woman Elopes With Lover, Her In-Laws Allegedly Murder Her

Investigation into the Missing Person Case

An investigation has unveiled a troubling incident in Karnataka, involving the alleged murder of a married woman after she refused to sever ties with her lover. The case centers on Satyavva Helavar, a resident of Hukeri in the Belgavi district, who was reported missing in February.

During the ongoing inquiry, police discovered that Satyavva had eloped with Krishna Patil, her extramarital partner. Although Satyavva had been married to Santosh Helavi for four years, she maintained a relationship with Patil, ultimately choosing to live with him temporarily.

Family Discontent and Abduction

In the wake of Satyavva’s elopement, her in-laws lodged a complaint with the authorities against Krishna Patil. Authorities noted that her family was particularly upset over the perceived dishonour caused by her actions.

The investigation further revealed that Satyavva’s family located her and Krishna’s residence and subsequently brought her back to their control. Following this, she was taken to Maharashtra, where her in-laws allegedly pressured her to abandon her relationship with Krishna.

Escalation of Violence

Despite their efforts, Satyavva refused to comply, insisting she wanted to return to Krishna. This determination reportedly infuriated her relatives, leading to a drastic escalation of violence on March 21.

According to the police findings, the accused are said to have forced Satyavva to consume poison, which resulted in her death. Following this tragic event, they allegedly attempted to destroy evidence by cremating her body at a site in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, close to the border with Karnataka.

Filing of the Police Complaint

Upon finding himself unable to contact Satyavva, Krishna Patil approached law enforcement to report the circumstances involving her in-laws. His actions prompted a detailed investigation that ultimately uncovered the details surrounding what has been classified as a dishonour killing.

Arrests Made in Connection to the Crime

The police arrested three individuals tied to the alleged crime: Prakash Bheemappa Helavar, 46; Shanoor Sadashiv Helavar, 35; and Kallappa Mayappa Helavi, 40. Following their arrest, the suspects were remanded into judicial custody as the investigation continues.
