Doctor Caught with Flipping Number Plate While Drunk Driving in Hyderabad
Incident Overview
In Hyderabad, a doctor was apprehended by police after he used a device to flip his BMW’s number plate during a routine traffic stop. The event occurred on Saturday night in the upscale area of Jubilee Hills, resembling a scene from a James Bond movie.
The individual, identified as Gautham Reddy, was operating the luxury vehicle when approached by law enforcement. Upon being asked to undergo a breath-analyser test, Reddy activated a remote-controlled system that rapidly switched his car’s number plate in a bid to evade detection.
Details of the Number Plates
Authorities noted that one number plate was registered in Telangana as ‘TS9FQ9999’, while the other bore a Delhi registration number ‘DL6CM7097’. This high-tech setup allowed Reddy to alternate between two different registration plates, designed to mislead traffic surveillance and avoid electronic traffic fines.
This method of evasion drew parallels to the iconic rotating number plates seen in the Aston Martin DB5 featured in several James Bond films, including “Thunderball” and “Skyfall”.
Police Response and Findings
Hyderabad police confirmed that the Telangana registration plate was linked to another vehicle associated with Reddy, indicating an intentional effort to deceive law enforcement. N Ravinder, inspector at Jubilee Hills Police Station, commented on the incident, noting that while the use of fake number plates is not uncommon, the advanced nature of this setup was unusual.
Ravinder further stated, “It appears to be a calculated attempt to dodge penalties and mislead digital surveillance.” Following these findings, authorities are investigating the modification’s origin, which is suspected to have been installed at a private car decoration unit.
Legal Consequences
The police stated that the car decor facility may face legal repercussions for enabling the use of such illegal contraptions. Officials indicated that inquiries were ongoing to determine any additional individuals involved in creating or distributing similar adaptations.
Additionally, Reddy’s blood alcohol concentration was reportedly alarmingly high at 137 mg, well above the legal limit of 30 mg per 100 ml. As a result, he has been charged under statutes pertaining to cheating and impersonation, as well as violations of the Motor Vehicles Act related to drunk driving.
The BMW has been confiscated for a thorough examination, as the investigation into the incident continues.
