Chandigarh: Amritpal Singh Mehron, the primary suspect in the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, was apprehended by Punjab Police on Friday following his deportation from an unspecified country in the Middle East. The arrest was confirmed by a senior police official.

According to police reports, Mehron, who is 30 years old and hails from Moga, had fled to the UAE in the aftermath of Kumari’s murder in June 2025. The Bathinda police issued a lookout circular to track him down.

Kanchan Kumari, known on Instagram as “Kamal Kaur Bhabhi,” was discovered deceased in an abandoned vehicle parked in a Bathinda parking lot. Three other individuals had previously been arrested in connection with her murder.

Among those arrested, Jaspreet Singh from Moga and Nimratjit Singh from Tarn Taran admitted to killing Kumari, claiming that her online content was “immoral and vulgar” and offended the sentiments of the Sikh community.

In an announcement on X, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav detailed the operation that led to Mehron’s arrest. He stated that the fugitive was detained at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport during the early hours of Friday morning after being deported from the Middle East.

DGP Yadav described the arrest as a significant breakthrough, facilitated by the Bathinda Police in collaboration with the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) and central agencies. He emphasized the urgent nature of the operation due to the high-profile nature of the case.

On June 11, 2025, Mehron and three associates were reported to have abducted and killed Kumari, subsequently leaving her body in a car near Adesh Hospital in Bathinda. The police confirmed that his accomplices had already been arrested prior to Mehron’s capture.

Following the incident, a video surfaced on social media in which Mehron allegedly claimed that two of his accomplices had committed the murder due to Kumari’s inappropriate content. He also warned other influencers engaging in similar activities to cease their actions.
