Nashik Techies Allege Sexual Harassment At Office, Team Lead Among 6 Arrested
Details of the Arrests
Six individuals, including a team leader, have been taken into custody following allegations of sexual harassment made by female employees at a multinational company in Nashik, Maharashtra. The police revealed on Wednesday that nine cases have been filed against the accused on charges encompassing sexual harassment and the violation of religious sentiments.
The alleged incidents of harassment reportedly spanned over the last four years, as stated by the police. One of the accused is alleged to have engaged in a physical relationship with a female employee under the false pretext of marriage, thus breaching trust.
Nature of Allegations
Further reports indicate that another accused physically touched one of the employees and made inappropriate comments about her personal and marital life. Such actions have raised serious concerns regarding the workplace environment at the company.
According to the police, the complainant faced persistent challenges when attempting to report the incidents. Despite lodging repeated verbal complaints with the company’s head officer, her concerns about the harassment were not addressed, leading to accusations that the officer effectively enabled the misconduct.
In an additional disturbing claim, the police stated that one of the male employees was coerced into performing Namaz and faced ridicule regarding his religious beliefs. This, along with the obscene remarks made towards female employees about their physical appearance, highlights the severity of the situation at the workplace.
Legal Proceedings
The five accused individuals, arrested on Tuesday, were presented in a local court on Wednesday. The court subsequently ordered their remand in police custody until April 10. Another individual involved in the case is currently held in judicial custody.
To ensure a thorough investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sandeep Mitke. This action was taken under the direction of Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations.
Encouragement for Additional Complaints
In light of these events, the police have urged other women who may have faced similar harassment to come forward. They have provided a contact number via WhatsApp, 9923323311, for victims to report their experiences confidentially.
