Bihar Boy, 5, Stabbed To Death In School; Family Alleges Sexual Assault
Incident Overview
On April 1, a five-year-old boy was dropped off by his mother at a school hostel in Jehanabad, Bihar. Tragically, five days later, on April 6, the child was pronounced dead, prompting his family to seek answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his demise. The child, identified as Ashu, had been enrolled in a Gurukul about 50 kilometers from Patna, the state capital, and his family is now pursuing justice over the alleged abuse he suffered.
Details of the Incident
According to a written complaint filed by the boy’s father, Ajay Kumar Sharma, he received an urgent call from the principal and director of the Gurukul Hostel and School, Tarun Kumar, at approximately 5:20 am on April 6. He was informed that Ashu was critically ill and had been taken to a private hospital. Upon his arrival at the hospital within 15 minutes, Ajay found his son in the Intensive Care Unit, exhibiting severe injuries.
The father described finding cuts across his son’s body, including a slashed throat, severed genitals, and additional injuries on his abdomen, cheek, and eyebrow, as documented in the First Information Report (FIR). Following medical advice, Ajay made the decision to transfer Ashu to a multi-specialty hospital in Patna, where the child was ultimately declared deceased.
Allegations of Abuse
Medical professionals have indicated that Ashu was likely sexually assaulted and stabbed multiple times with sharp objects. His family has further alleged that gang rape may have occurred. It has been reported that Ashu’s older brother, Rishu, who attended the same institution but resided on a different floor, revealed to their family that on the night of the incident, the principal had taken Ashu to his room to sleep together.
Community Response
Following their loss, Ajay returned to the school with his son’s body, where family members and local villagers organized a large protest. They blocked the Patna-Gaya National Highway-22, demanding capital punishment for those responsible for Ashu’s death. The protest caused significant traffic disruptions, resulting in long queues of vehicles that extended for several kilometers.
The family suspects that multiple individuals may have been involved in the tragedy, amplifying their calls for justice.
Police Investigation
The primary suspect, school principal Tarun Kumar, has been apprehended by authorities. In addition, a teacher and two female staff members were detained but later released after questioning. Investigators are also interrogating the school’s security guard regarding the events surrounding the case.
Law enforcement has initiated a case that includes charges of rape by a person in authority, gang rape, and murder. Additionally, a case of sexual assault has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012. The school has been temporarily sealed pending ongoing investigations.
